The Fair Housing Act

The Fair Housing Act makes any discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, or national origin, illegal with respect to the sale, lease or rental of housing.

Real estate professionals are legally prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, handicap, familial or marital status, or age. Real estate professionals cannot legally comply with a request from a home seller or landlord to discriminate in the sale, lease or rental of a property.
